DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

We are now at an important stage in our growth and are looking for talented individuals to bring skills and abilities to one of Canada's largest marine engineering integrators as we lead the way in Canadian naval defence contracts (In Service Support) and new Government and commercial ship design and support activities.

 

We are looking for a qualified Director of Engineering for our HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) office to be based out of 35 MicMac Blvd. Suite A100.

Our Director of Engineering is accountable for the overall leadership, direction and performance of the engineering and technical delivery teams across Fleetway’s four Canadian offices (Halifax Regional Municipality NS, St John’s NL, Ottawa ON, Victoria BC). The Director provides leadership and coaching to our technical delivery departments totaling approximately 200 employees. Each is led by a Technical Manager to ensure high quality contract deliverables and profitable performance through the performance of our people.

Through the Director of Engineering’s leadership, they will leverage their technical expertise to guide and influence across all Fleetway product lines including, engineering planning and maintenance management, engineering design, technical services, in-service support, Integrated Logistics Support, 3D model management, data management and data utilization in support of marine engineering activities.

 


Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Naval Architecture, Mechanical or Electrical)
  • P.Eng certification recognized by a provincial engineering association. The incumbent will be required to obtain P.eng status in the province of Nova Scotia.
  • PMP Certification
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian government security clearances (5+ years searchable Canadian history). Additionally, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
  • 15+ years of proven marine experience in progressively increasing levels of program complexity and leadership demand
  • Experience in a wide variety of environments (e.g. different ship types, owners, shipyards and consulting firms)
  • Experience managing medium-sized projects/programs (>5,000 workhours) or greater
  • Experience in digital innovation that has inspired new ways of undertaking engineering and maintenance activities, delivered cost-effective solutions and harnessed the power of integrated data

Key Responsibilities: (Ability to do/conduct the following in English)

  • As a member of the Senior Management Team, work collaboratively and conduct strategic planning to facilitate the achievement of department-level goals and objectives
  • Provide active leadership and coaching to the technical delivery teams to enable the achievement of department level goals and objectives in support of the strategic plan
  • Facilitate the resolution of technical, project or resource issues to support project execution
  • Ensure professional development and competency assessment, succession planning, and career development take place with the Technical Managers to maximize the effectiveness of the technical delivery teams
  • Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with local, provincial and federal regulations
  • Lead the rolling forecast of work and workforce requirements in collaboration with the Senior Management Team
  • Serve as the Design and Engineering Competency Owner within the company’s Quality Business Management Model
  • Responsible for managing software requirements, IT equipment and technical reference material allocated to each delivery department
  • Perform business development-related activities and ensure client satisfaction
