We are looking for an Engineering Manager for our St. John's, Newfoundland office.


Qualifications you should have:

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a marine technical discipline (Naval Architecture, Marine Systems Design, Electrical Engineering)
  • Professional Engineering status (P.Eng)
  • Years of Experience Required:
    • 7-10 years of marine experience in progressively increasing levels of supervision is required
    • Expertise and experience in a wide variety of environments (ex: different ship types, owners, shipyards & consulting firms, etc.) is required
    • Recent experience managing multi-disciplined, medium sized (>1,000MHr) projects or larger
  • Member of SNAME or RINA and Member of PMI would be an asset

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Monitoring individual performance and prepare and deliver individual performance planning reviews (PPR’s), facilitating the completion of the team’s development plans, and managing their first level employee relations issues and concerns
  • Aligning office and individual goals and development with department strategies
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the Technical Team to advance the business/organizational and functional/technical competencies of the Technical Team while maintaining a cohesive group that is aligned with Fleetway’s goals & objectives
  • Preparing engineering analysis, reports, specifications, and drawings as part of a project team
  • Providing some technical guidance and support to the Technical Team to ensure the production of assigned work occurs in an efficient manner
  • Assisting Engineering Project Leaders (EPLs) in meeting project objectives as required
  • Directing work and resources with the other Engineering Managers (from our other locations across Canada) under the guidance of the Director of Engineering to ensure that the work is evenly distributed and the appropriate people are being assigned to the work at hand; specifically, oversee the Technical Team’s work allocation to ensure that they are:
    • Assigned to tasks they are qualified to do
    • Performing tasks that support their development needs
    • Assigned to tasks that align their expertise with the task requirements in order to maximize the utilization rates
