Dredge Superintendent
Harbour Development is a large Eastern Canadian Marine Construction and Dredging company. Harbour Development specializes with delivering professional services in all aspects of marine dredging and marine construction services to various private and public marine stakeholders throughout Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario, and Western Canada. We operate a fleet of spud barge dredges, shallow draft workboats, tugboats, cranes and dump scows, that is primarily located in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Responsibilities:
- Provide safety leadership and perform safely on all projects and in compliance with environmental requirements. Advance the company’s safety initiatives, conduct safety audits, liaise with JOHS committee, and coordinate training.
- Promote a safe and respectful workplace.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of vessel systems.
- Maintaining regular communication with various departments.
- Ensure work aligns with standards, specifications, and schedules. You will possess a continuous improvement mindset regarding productivity, quality and safety and will support and lead initiatives such as projects and shutdowns.
- Leads a team of dredge deckhands, operators, dredge engineer, and cook, and provide coaching and support continuously.
- Carry out standard operating procedures and safe job practices as outlined by the Project Manager.
- Maintain a record of spare parts used and report to the Project Manager.
- Keep track of employee hours and report to the Office Coordinator for payroll and accounting.
- Contribute to Harbour Developments safety culture by:
- Understand and comply with various safety processes within the Safety Management System.
- Possess the skills to perform job related tasks and apply safe practices while performing physical tasks.
- Have a through understanding of precautions and procedures related to the Safety Management System.
- Have thorough understanding of pollution regulations and the company’s objectives regarding environmental protection.
- Understand and comply with various safety processes within the Safety Management System.
Qualifications and Trainings:
- Trade Certificate or College Diploma
- 4-7 Years’ Experience in Marine Operations
- Strong safety leadership skills and safety record
- Ability to take the initiative, work independently, make decisions, and develop recommendations.
- Domestic Vessel Safety (DVS) training within first year.
- Transport Canada Marine Medical within first six months.
- Marine First Aid and CPR
