Job Title: Packaging Specialist

Skills & Qualifications
  • Completion of a two or three-year college program in industrial engineering

  • Must have previous experience in a packaging specialist and/or packaging role 
  • Must have at least 1 year direct experience working in the pulp & paper industry
  • Demonstrated project and time management skills
  • Excellent planning, prioritization and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all quality non-conformances, complete root cause analysis and drive corrective actions

 


Job Duties:


Reporting to the Quality Technical Manager, the Packaging Coordinator is responsible for organizing and monitoring, product and project-related tasks with the Quality Department at Irving Tissue Toronto. This includes but is not limited to creating and reviewing packaging batch records, creating Standard Operating Procedures, reviewing, monitoring and maintaining the packaging processes to ensure products are packaged and shipped according to established quality standards and suggesting and implementing continuous packaging improvement processes. The incumbent will be responsible for initiating, coordinating, controlling and optimizing changes to all packaging, raw materials and processes that will increase production, quality and/or cost reduction


  • Facilitate the introduction of new or changed finished products and raw materials that impact production and end-product quality;
  • Coordinate product development and marketing initiatives within the manufacturing plant;
  • Partner with Quality team members to support the development of effective and efficient production methods and systems;
  • Initiate and coordinate trials to minimize risk level for any given change as well as optimize performance;
  • Follow the corporate packaging process, document and track all changes to raw materials and finished product designs
  • Work with other Irving sites to coordinate and consolidate product designs
  • Develop complete and accurate packaging specifications to help ensure the optimal execution of packaging projects;
  • Develop and conduct production, inventory and quality assurance programs;
  • Collect and analyze product samples to ensure quality specifications are met and maintained
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert in the area of packaging structural design
  • Respond to customer complaints or inquiries and develop action plans to address and solve complaints
  • Other Duties as assigned
