Reporting to the Utilities Team Leader, the Utilities / Facilities Operations Process Technician is a member of the Maintenance and Engineering Department and is responsible for the operational readiness of all facility utilities such as the boiler, natural gas, steam, compressed air, HVAC, and effluent pretreatment plant systems. This position participates and supports the vision, initiatives and plans of the Utilities / Facilities Team at the Macon Tissue Mill.  The Utilities / Facilities Operations Process Technician is responsible for operating within compliance with regional codes and safety standards. 



  • Understand the operations and maintenance requirements for assigned equipment, including Boiler, Steam, Compressed Air, Effluent Treatment Plant, HVAC, and Fire Protection systems.
  • Support operations, preventative, and corrective maintenance activities on Utilities and Facilities equipment and systems at the Macon Tissue Mill.
  • Monitor operation of plant equipment and systems.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of operating and training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures for the Utilities/Facilities department.
  • Undertake and drive trouble shooting activities on assigned equipment and systems.
  • Assist in preparing reports, analyzing data, and making recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
  • Assist the Maintenance and Utilities/Facilities Team Leaders in maintaining and updating the JD Edwards computerized maintenance management system.
  • Provide weekly work schedule updates and relative feedback to Utilities/Facilities Team Leader.
  • Initiate and carry out small projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Participate in environmental audits for compliance and permits.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support after hours maintenance activities. 
  • Provide coverage for Utility/Facility Operator vacations and absences, including occasional shift coverage.

Qualifications: The following criteria are the minimum requirement for the position. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Education and Experience
    • High School or GED equivalent is required, Technical Diploma preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operations or industrial maintenance environment.
    • Must have strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
    • High attention to detail is required.
    • Boiler, steam, air, and effluent treatment operation experience is preferred
    • Industrial maintenance experience is preferred.
    • Experience in PLCs and hydraulic systems is preferred.
    • Experience with industrial HVAC including chillers, cooling towers, and air washers is preferred.
    • A current Georgia State License for Industrial Waste Water Operations or Industrial Laboratory Analyst is preferred.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Must be proficient with basic computer software including the Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
    • Must have the ability to work effectively with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). 
    • Proficiency with J.D. Edwards E1 would be considered an asset.
