Environmental Health & Safety Manager

We are a family-owned and operated company that has grown to become one of North America’s leading manufacturers of household paper products.  Irving Tissue produces both branded and private label bathroom tissue, facial tissue, paper towels, and napkins.  Our manufacturing facilities are located in Fort Edward, NY, Toronto, Ontario, and Dieppe, New Brunswick.

The Environmental, Health, and Safety manager is responsible for developing site safety strategies and implementing and implementing corporate safety initiatives for the Fort Edward, NY site. 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensures compliance with applicable corporate and regulatory environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Proposes general health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Develops and conducts employee training programs for compliance programs, accident prevention programs, fire prevention and incident investigation.
  • Maintains records, investigates accidents and injuries, and prepares appropriate reports including the site’s safety scorecard. (e.g., Workers' Compensation, OSHA Log, Monthly KPIs, action plans, etc.).
  • Provides leadership for the site’s Key Elements of Safety.
  • Acts as the site’s resource for corporate initiatives and safety audits.
  • Provides assistance to supervisors during incident investigation.
  • Mentor and supervise site safety coordinator(s).
  • Actively participate in the site’s senior leadership team.
  • Regular interface with employees on the manufacturing floor.

Successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years of EHS leadership experience in an industrial setting.
  • Degree in Occupational, Health, & Safety is preferred.
  • Ability to achieve safety professional certification .
  • Excellent computer skills with programs such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge in environmental and safety regulations (EPA, NYSDEC, OSHA).
  • Excellent root cause failure analysis skills (formal training preferred).
  • Experience in incident investigation procedures and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and detail oriented.
  • Enjoy a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities.
  • High level of commitment and self-motivation.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement processes a plus (Six Sigma, LEAN manufacturing).
