Our manufacturing facilities are located in Dieppe, New Brunswick, Toronto, Ontario, Fort Edward, New York, and Macon, Georgia.

Reporting to the Finance Manager the Buyer is responsible for the day to day purchasing activities for our fast-paced manufacturing facility. They will also be responsible for assisting in price negotiations, maintaining supplier relationships, preparing site spending analysis to help ensure goods are procured in a cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regularly obtain competitive quotes as a means of identifying cost reduction opportunities and doing market validations of current arrangements.
  • Perform the purchasing functions including preparation of supply agreement drafts and documents.
  • Perform supplier performance reviews with coworkers utilizing the standard supplier evaluation tools and report supplier performance to management as required.
  • Document and keep current supply agreements through use of the standard supply contract, ensure internal and supplier compliance to JD Irving expectations.
  • Supervise buying activity to confirm compliance with negotiated arrangements.
  • Provide monthly reporting as required.
  • These activities include issuing purchase orders, assuring required materials are on-site, deferring and/or expediting orders amongst other duties.


  • Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or related degree is required.
  • Years of Experience Required: 3-5 years of related experience or similar combination of education and experience.
  • Following are considered assets:
    • Related work experience focusing on procurement processes in MRO.
    • Successfully completed or currently enrolled in CIPS, SCMP, or ISM. 
    • Good understanding of J.D. Edwards (“JDE”) ERP solution, especially the Procurement functionality.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, resolve conflict, negotiate and keep projects moving forward.
  • Ability to evaluate risk and to know when risk is acceptable.
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities and demands.
