We currently have an opportunity for a Director of IT Operations in our Saint John, NB office. As part of the JDI IT Leadership team, the successful candidate will ensure our IT core systems and infrastructure platforms for JDI are stable, secure and optimized. The Director of IT Operations will lead a group of senior leaders that support the JDI group of companies as the customer and implement, monitor and maintain technology including; applications, systems, and network infrastructure.  In addition to our internal team, they will also be accountable for managing our outsourced partners across onshore and offshore teams, as well as collaborating with various internal Enterprise IT teams.


This position will report to the VP, Information Technology and be a member of the IT Senior Leadership team where they will be a key contributor to the overall strategy and culture of the organization.

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Systems or other related field
  • Years of experience required: 10-15 years IT leadership experience in Infrastructure and IT Service Delivery
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organization design and development with preferred experience in leading transformational initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in managing technical staff and optimizing delivery through effective leadership
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to instill confidence in the business and demonstrate the business value of IT
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment (ITIL, Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the IT workforce
Key Responsibilities
  • Work as a part of the senior IT Leadership Team to deliver best-in-class network services and support to enable J.D. Irving Ltd.
  • Overall leadership related to systems, services, network, end user experience, collaboration, network, facilities, service desk and application development center
  • Drive organizational change and build infrastructure capabilities that effectively optimize operational efficiency and deliver innovative and agile solutions
  • Develop and control the annual operating and capital budgets for the IT Operations department
  • Establish and execute technology standards and roadmaps
  • Oversee operational and service management processes to ensure quality, security and efficiency are achieved.
  • Delivery of all internal technology projects
  • Performance Management, including identification and development of senior IT leaders
  • Develop and mentor staff, build skills and capabilities, and manage resource demand
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, life cycle, and upgrade of infrastructure
  • Collaborate with architecture and risk management teams to reduce risk, and ensure information security policies, guidelines and standards are met
  • Foster a corporate culture that promotes integrity and the values throughout the organization
