Director of Safety

Midland Transport Limited has become a leader in the transportation industry by providing superior quality service to our customers. Our services include LTL, T/L, Courier Services, and Third Party Logistics/ Brokerage which provide the convenience of one-stop shipping.

We are currently seeking a Director of Safety based in Dieppe, NB. This is a key leadership role that will have responsibility for and provide direction across the company including fleet and facilities for all Environment, Health & Safety matters and to promote a safe operating culture.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic, highly motivated leader responsible for the ongoing development and continuous improvement of all safety initiatives for the Company.

This is accomplished by establishing effective business relationships combined with solid industry knowledge of OHS, FMCSA and DOT legislation.


  • Education Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • CRSP designation is preferred 
  • Years of Experience Required: 5+ years of progressive safety experience
  • Transportation and management experience at a management level would be considered an asset
  • Proven leadership skills to develop and motivate a team
  • Excellent communicator with demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships both with and among team members
  • Strong computer and analytical skills
  • In depth knowledge of federal and provincial safety legislation and related DOT regulations affecting trucking operations
  • Ability to speak both official languages is an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define Midland’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) strategy and develop KPIs for all locations and road fleet
  • Develop, implement and execute Environmental Health and Safety programs that inspire a world class safety culture
  • Lead a team of safety professionals who drive tier results in the areas of health, safety and the environment
  • Guide, coach and develop leadership and management accountability to improve safety behavior performance and overall EHS results
  • Promote, educate and communicate best practices for health, safety, security and environmental areas
  • Actively involved in all aspects of compliance, ensuring that the organization is fully compliant with all relevant policies, procedures and legislative requirements relating to environment, health and safety in transportation and workplace
  • Ensure Safety Programs result in meeting or exceeding targets to deliver best in class performance
  • Evaluate current programs for onboarding, fleet safety, driver development and prepare new safety programs as required
  • Ensure training plans for safety and safety compliance are met
  • Ensure communications of accident investigations, fleet accidents, workplace incidents, root cause analysis and trends are timely and that action plans for resolution are executed timely
  • Maintain a network of internal and external contacts to regularly benchmark and remain current on future trends and developments related to government standards, industry practices, legislation, guidelines, new technologies and programs related to safety program requirements
  • Other duties as required
