Health, Safety, Security and Environment Specialist

We are currently seeking a Health, Safety, Security and Environment Specialist based in Oakfield, Maine. The HSSE Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:


  • In collaboration with all Departments, ensures that all NBM Railway employees in Maine are operating within the regulations set by the FRA and OSHA.
  • Completes FRA reporting requirements.
  • Promotes the highest standards of safety throughout the company.
  • Supports health and safety activities and reviews and communicates HSSE related KPI's to the management team in order to target areas of improvement.
  • Provides CROR training and other regulatory training as required.
  • Provides support and education for all team members regarding their HSSE responsibilities, ensures understanding and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on the development and delivery of HSSE related training / education
  • In collaboration with Recruiting and Operations, Coordination and facilitation of orientation program for all new hires.
  • Coordination and facilitation of HSSE and Customer Required training programs
  • Supports hazard Identification, Incident prevention and incident investigation. Works in collaboration with all departments and implementation of best practices to support HSSE activities.
  • Audit records, facilities and equipment to ensure compliance; supports correction of non-compliance
  • Support “On Call” responsibilities for Emergency Response and Incidents
  • Provides consulting, guidance, and mentoring in support of the safety activities of the organization
  • Support HSSE initiatives such as Drug Testing administration.


  • Post-secondary HSSE education or equivalent work experience.
  • Railway experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Must enjoy a fast paced and challenging environment.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office.
