Irving Shipbuilding, located at 3099 Barrington Street Halifax NS B3K 5M7, is part of the J.D. Irving Group of companies and is in the business of building quality ships and repairing vessels. The company's primary site is Halifax Shipyard, with three other locations in the Maritime Provinces. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defense and the Canadian Coast Guard. This is a permanent position located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday to Friday, 30-40 hours per week.

  • Injury assessment and treatment within scope of practice
  • Referral to advanced level of care when necessary
  • Provide emergency medical response
  • Maintain confidential medical records
  • Collect and analyze health related data and reports on effectiveness of programs and evaluation of risks to management
  • Liaise with healthcare professionals, regulatory bodies, management and employees
  • Respiratory and Hearing Conservation Surveillance Program development, oversight and management
  • Support disability management and stay at work/return to work programs
  • Promotes optimum health and wellness of workforce by developing and coordinating preventative health services such as immunizations, health profile assessments, and is involved in executing health promotion activities
  • Monitor and inform appropriate departments of all status changes and transactions relating to modified duties
  • Develop and implement health and well-being related processes and procedures to ensure compliance with provincial and federal legislation and industry best practice
  • Champion initiatives and projects are directed by HSE management

  • Education Required: Bachelor of Nursing Degree 
  • Active registration and practice permit with the Nova Scotia Nursing Association
  • Experience Required: 5-8 years 
  • Certificate and experience in Occupational Health nursing is an asset, but not a requirement
  • Current Advanced First Aid/AED and CPR certificates are an asset
  • Ability to handle confidentiality and sensitive issues with tact and discretion 
  • Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills for communicating with employees of varying roles
  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must be able to work well with minimal supervision and practice independently 
  • Knowledge and experience with computer software including Microsoft Office/Outlook/Word/Excel/Access 
  • Traveling required as needed 

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
