Our Lethbridge, AB location requires a Powerhouse Operator who has the expertise and fortitude to oversee the most important aspects of our plant, shouldering real responsibility from day one.


Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer, the successful candidate will have a  3rd Class Power Engineering Certification and will bring that knowledge to bear during the start-up and shut-down of several integral plant systems. From boiler and auxiliary systems, ammonia refrigeration systems, to various other utilities, the candidate will actively monitor, assess and operate a wide array of machinery and keep their fingers on the pulse of all plant operation.


It’s a role for someone who knows their stuff, loves operating and hands on mechanical work, and isn’t afraid to take an invaluable role in a high-speed, exciting enterprise. 


Successful Candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Valid 3rd Class Power Engineering Certification

  • Ammonia and Refrigeration experience

  • Grade 12 education

  • Able to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends

  • Able to work well with minimal supervision and alone for extended periods

  • Willingness to learn

  • Work in a safe and efficient manner

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Have up-to-date tickets for associated duties of the position

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in optimizing boiler, steam, and refrigeration systems in a facility one year old

  • Adherence to sustaining ABSA Power Engineers Act, Boilers and Pressure Vessels Act and all associated boiler and refrigeration regulations

  • Startup and shutdown boiler and auxiliary systems, ammonia refrigeration systems, and equipment as required

  • Actively monitor the DCS computer screens and adjust as required for optimal performance and efficiency

  • Perform boiler and auxiliary equipment water tests and adjust chemical feed as required

  • Building HVAC Operation and monitoring  

  • Care of the fire pump and associated fire protection equipment  

  • Troubleshoot and anticipate problems with equipment in your care

  • Preventive maintenance routines as scheduled

  • Complete small repairs on equipment as required, e.g. tightening packings, cleaning small check valves, repairing steam and condensate leaks, etc.

  • Roof inspections must be completed once a shift for visual checks and minor repairs
