Store Managers in Training are Assistant Managers who have the desire to develop skills to become a store manager. Kent provides opportunities for learning including a management development program that provides training from experts in various areas of retail operations paired with hands-on application. Development may include opportunities to participate in project work, new store set-up or process improvement.

Assistant managers are responsible for all operations within a section of the store, delivering financial results, and developing their people. Long term career growth is available through Kent as well as J.D.Irving Limited, of which Kent is a division.

Typical career steps for assistant managers are to work in process improvement, purchasing or to become a store manager (store manager in training). 

This position is open to recent graduates, potential graduates, and current students from any field or discipline who are looking for an opportunity in the area of retail management. 

  • Safety mindset 
  • Diploma or degree in any field of study
  • Some experience supervising or leading people
  • Ability yo organize, plan, and implement change initiatives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to leverage technology for project management, analysis and solving problems (including Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Retail experience is an asset
