We also manufacture private label diapers and training pants for North American retailers.
The Technical Manager, Converting can be based out of any Irving Tissue location (Moncton, New Brunswick; Toronto, Ontario; Macon, Georgia; Fort Edward, New York) and is accountable for the technical initiatives at all sites. This role is responsible for managing the 4-year technical development plan for all new converting product development and innovation initiatives and following through on all the action items associated with it. Reporting to the Corporate Director, Technical, this position will support both the sites, the Product Development team, and their fellow Technical team members on initiatives to improve paper making & converting capabilities.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Post-secondary degree in Engineering or Technology-related field, or equivalent experience;
- Experience:
- 7-15 years of relevant work experience;
- R&D, Product Development, Quality experience;
- Thorough converting process knowledge;
- Understanding and applying new concepts and processes;
- Ability to manage multiple activities with competing deadlines;
- Ability to assess new technology and potential impact on business;
- Project management experience;
- Leadership, mentoring, and coaching ability;
- Ability to travel (up to 25% of time);
- Knowledge of stage gate processes is an asset
The main duties/responsibilities of this role include:
Product Improvement:
- Design new products and product improvements to meet business, customer and consumer needs;
- Ownership of converting technical development initiatives and their approach;
- Conduct product and process trials either at manufacturing sites or vendor facilities;
- Provides competitive insights.
Innovation:
- Supports Sales/Marketing product innovation initiatives;
- Facilitate trial and development phases;
- Investigate and develop new technology;
Support:
- Support the business product cost improvement;
- Provide technical support to manufacturing sites
- Operational support, as needed;
- Mentor junior engineers.
