Cavendish Farms is a leading producer of frozen food products for retail and foodservice markets throughout Canada, the United States, and around the world. We have state-of-the-art potato processing plants in Prince Edward Island, Lethbridge, Alberta, and Jamestown, North Dakota, and an appetizer plant in Wheatley, Ontario. Cavendish Farms has established an indelible role in the Canadian frozen potato category having grown and expanded the category by 21% through innovation over the last four years due to consumer centered innovation and our commitment to service and quality. We’re seeking an experienced Vice President, Insights & Innovation to continue that tradition of excellence, and drive towards our growth goals both domestically and internationally.

Reporting to the VP, Retail Marketing, the successful candidate will be a self-motivated leader, who’s able to set and attain performance goals and isn’t afraid of a fast-paced, high-responsibility hands-on environment. The VP, Insights & Innovation will lead a team to advance insights & innovation market leadership for Cavendish Farms. This role requires a collaborative approach, working cross functionally with Sales, Marketing, Innovation, R&D, Finance and Operations.



  • University degree with a graduate degree in business or equivalent executive-level work experience
  • 10-15+ years of experience in consumer goods R&D, innovation, market research and marketing
  • Market research / insights experience; proficient in research design; qual and quant methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to identify category and consumer insights and translate them into profitable business propositions
  • Proven experience leading breakthrough new product development from concept through to launch
  • Proven track record of effectively owning & championing complex initiatives and leading cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills. Strong story-teller and influential communicator.
  • Sales and operations knowledge
  • Finance acumen for P&L development
  • Analytics and Budget Management
  • Resourceful with strong problem-solving skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Optimize the research and insights function to serve retail and foodservice
    • Assess market landscapes, consumer trends, need states and barriers to identify and size whitespace innovation opportunities
    • Identify and articulate key business issues and gaps uncovering opportunities to inform marketing objectives and strategies
    • Identify competitive, category, consumer, shopper, and retailer insights
    • Lead the assessment phase of the integrated brand planning process
  • Optimize stage gate and R&D work processes
    • Establish and lead a strong innovation process culture and disciplined cadence in innovation / renovation stage gate process, key supporting R&D work processes, cross functional project team meetings, and steering committee meetings.
    • Guide product & package quality and cost-out initiatives
  • Develop insight-led innovation platforms
    • Establish an innovation platform framework and discipline
    • Oversee innovation pipeline development & validation
    • Responsible for identifying white space, leveraging consumer insights to develop concepts, assessing feasibility, validating market viability and size of prize, creating business propositions, and coordinating commercialization.
    • Work effectively across business functions - R&D, Consumer Insights, Sales, Supply Chain and Finance - to deliver innovation to market
  • Manage a three-year innovation pipeline for the brand and customer brands
